I’m working on Facebooking With Mona, and I am about to begin Chapter 8. I’m pleased with Mona’s progress. The story is going well, and she is really beginning to come to life. I’m trying to cut myself some slack because I want to be able to enjoy the holidays, but that will slow my schedule down.
I am still working on the editing of Growing Up Lately. I love that book, and I hope others will like it as much as I do. I’m aiming for a March 1, 2013 release date.
Found this peace sign and it fits in nicely with Mona’s journey. Just a hint, she’s never left her peace-loving days behind.
It’s been a semi-productive week so far. It finally got cold here, starting yesterday. In fact it hit freezing. Just. But here in Austin, in an unusually hot winter (just like last year and the one before it), that IS cold. I LOVE the cold. So I’m happy. So starting yesterday, I was able to snuggle up with my trusty pen and paper, and I’ve written another one and a half chapters on FaceBooking With Mona. I’m now on Chapter 6. Given that it’s a holiday month, I am so not pushing it.
I will work on the rest of Chapter 6 on Saturday, and hope to start Chapter 7. I’m also wrapping gifts so, like I said, I’m not pushing the writing so much right now.
I’m on FaceBook looking at other people’s life. I’ve noticed I’m there more than usual, because better than the reality is a picture. For better or worse, my focus has shifted. I used to go from site to site to explore ownership options. In other words, shopping to buy. And buy. And buy. Now it’s about posting on my blog. So it’s all about seeing what’s being posted out there.
That said, I’m still me. Old habits don’t go away. Especially this time of year. I’m watching Wolfgang Puck on HSN, big as life and live, streaming on my T.V., and in my living room. He so inspires me to cook. Or to want to cook would be more like it.
So I’m watching Wolfie instead of writing on my manuscript. The good news is that I am formulating ideas on how I want Mona’s story to go, so I’m not completely wasting time. Mona is drifting back to 1972, a very important year in America’s history and for Mona. That was the year North Vietnam realized that the war was at a stalemate. A cease fire was agreed upon, and it was the beginning of the end of our involvement. It was also the year of Watergate. For those of you who remember the year or have studied it, it was a critical time in our recent (semi-recent?) history.
But back to 2012, for me, anyway. Time to move the holidays forward, so there is some shopping in my near future. And since I’m just vegging out to Wolfie, time to hit the treadmill.
Here’s the recipe I used for my turkey stuffing casserole. It is so easy and a great way to use left over turkey after Thanksgiving. I had meant to include a picture of the completed dish but it got eaten before I could photograph it. I know, I don’t even know what to say about that.
TURKEY STUFFING CASSEROLE
2 packages (6 ounce each) stuffing mix (I used cornbread)
2 1/2 cups boiling water
2-3 cups cooked diced turkey
4 cups steamed broccoli
2 cans cream of mushroom (or other) soups (I used fat free)
1 cup milk (I used skim)
8 ounces grated cheddar cheese (I used pepperjack lite), separated
Place the stuffing mix with the included spices in 9×13″ pan and pour water over. Combine and smooth to cover bottom of baker. Sprinkle turkey and broccoli evenly over stuffing. In separate bowl, combine soup, milk, and about 2/3 cheese; pour over stuffing mixture. Sprinkle remaining cheese over the top evenly. Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes, until bubbly.
Okay, it’s Sunday and all is almost well in my world. Finally. I’ve finished the laundry and have ironed as well. I have so many dirty clothes that I cram them into as few loads as possible. So everything comes out completely wrinkled. The problem is, if I do less at one time, not only does it take longer, but everything still comes out wrinkled. Just not as much. So if I have to iron anyway…. Bottom line, I’ve washed, dried, ironed, and put away my clothing for the past two weeks. WaHoo!!! I baked a left over turkey breast (raw and frozen and defrosted, from Thanksgiving), diced the meat, and used what came of it. I made a stuffing casserole that is soooo good, and have meat left for the next time. The only problem is that it is so HOT in here. It’s winter, and it’s over 70 degrees outside. Add to that that I’ve been cooking for a few hours, and believe me, it is hot! I might have to break down and turn on the AC.
The only thing I struggled to do is my writing. I’m working on FaceBooking With Mona, and I have made it to the third chapter. Sunday is usually a good writing day, and I had meant to finish this chapter. But I helped someone move this weekend, and, well, need I say more? I’m happy to have been able to help J , but I am behind, and quite frankly, all I want to do is catch up on my sleep!
The Stuffing recipe is amazingly simple. And so easy to make. I’ll post the recipe on Tuesday. For now, it’s nap time.
Getting ready for the season!!!
This is my first ever blog. I am so excited to finally be doing this. It’s been an exciting year overall, anyway, and this is a continuation of that. I have just finished a complete manuscript, and it is in the process of being edited. The story is about a very immature thirty year old woman who struggles with alcohol. How it impacts her life, and her awareness of that, is what drives the story. The title is Growing Up Lately. Frankly, I have no idea where that came from, but it popped into my head before I even finished the first chapter. Evidently titles are easier than writing for me. My release date on this is planned for March, 2013.
I am now on my second manuscript. It should be a real departure from the first book, and again, I already have the title. FaceBooking With Mona. Mona is an aging hippie who loves to cook. She is eeking her way into the twenty-first century and making connections online to stave off loneliness and help come to terms with the loss of the love of her life, who recently died. Her goal and fantasy is to have a cooking blog. Sounds familiar, right? That part could be me. Because I also love to cook, and one goal I have is to heartily include recipes on this blog as I go. So the challenge is to incorporate Mona’s story with recipes to accentuate her life. To enhance that, I plan to dig into her past, since it’s so much of who she is, and tie that into her recipes as well. How successful will I be? Only time will tell. My goal is to have this ready for release by July, 2013. So we’ll see.
